Covid19: OfficeMemoirs

Art, Illustration

With the active spread of the Corona Virus posing a major threat to public health, the Nigerian Federal Government, in March 2020, effected a full scale lock down, in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, which spanned through April.

The development led to companies adapting by tasking employees to carry out their official tasks remotely. The work-from-home arrangement created new challenges for employees, who have been used to working in a structured office environment. Beyond the challenges, the situation also led to feelings of freedom from office nuances and pranks.

In this regard, Arden & Newton, commissioned this illustration project, Covid19: Office Memoirs, to capture some office situations we do not miss.

Development Sketches

Quick rough sketches made to determine the visual creative direction. Attention was taken to ensure the angles of the shot and characters involved, including their expressions, optimally matched the specifications of the brief.

Sketch of “When was the last time someone ate your food?”

Sketch of “When was the last time you ‘lost’ your pen?”

Sketch of “When was the last time you shared toilet with strangers?”

Final Illustrations

The fundamental consideration in the final illustration direction was to have a uniform color palette. This was aimed at creating a mood cohesion across all the illustrations. So that, when viewers can relate one to another, when viewed at different times or platforms.
